Although this may sound like science fiction to most people, this very well may be a reality in our lifetimes. This is actually an online book about nanotechnology and predictions about what it will mean for the future. Many mechanical engineers and biologists are convinced that we will be able to generate matter from the bottom up rather than harvesting materials and building things. This would mean that we would be able to produce buildings, goods and just about anything from a molecular level; engineering the nanobots to assemble themselves to create the goods we need. This process would produce theoretically no waste because we would not be carving things from materials and throwing away the remainder. When we visited Seventh Generation, we talked about changing the way we think about everything and this publication will certainly make you think. It’s a mindblowing concept and somewhat hard to get your head around molecular sized nanobots curing diseases, building structures, harnessing our energy, cleaning our environment, purifying our air, and producing goods without using any energy or natural resources or creating waste. It also talks about how after this nano-revolution, we would be able to take all of the land that was previously used for natural resources and development and begin to re-grow natural habitats and restore the earth to it’s harmonious natural state. I’m about half way through and I already find myself thinking about our world and future in a whole different way. Whether it has to do with nanotechnology or not, this article gives you a radical prediction of what the world may someday be like. I highly recommend that you read at least a chapter or two!
